3M Peltor ComTac IX NIB Headsets
3M Peltor ComTac IX NIB is a tactical communication headset that helps provide hearing protection, environmental listening, and connectivity to radio and intercom systems (select models). ComTac IX NIB also features wireless headset-to-headset proximity communications (NIB).
ComTac IX NIB headsets offers a hands-free adaptive VOX capability allowing face to face communication in full duplex for up to four talkers and up to sixty listeners. 3M Natural Interaction Behavior (NIB) is designed to help improve intra-team, proximity communications. Radio audio management allow users to select one of three preset sound profiles to choose how incoming audio is presented: Mix (Radio communication(s) are heard equally in both left and right ear), Single (Radio communications will be split between the left and right ears) or Surround (The radio communications will be perceived as it is coming from different directions: 10 o’clock or 2 o’clock). With Mission Audio Profiles (MAP), ComTac IX offers a way to adjust the auditory settings of your headset for your mission. Traditionally, a headset has a set frequency response, and the operator can only increase or decrease the volume. The MAP function provides advanced ambient listening modes that allow access to a variety of gain settings, but with frequency shaping, to enhance auditory performance in five conditions. The MAP Profiles have been designed with a variety of combat and combat support operations in mind. ComTac™ IX helps to provide hearing protection and can also be worn in combination with earplugs, to help provide additional protection if required. In ear plug mode, it is possible to maintain a degree of auditory situational awareness, as the headset volume is boosted to help compensate for the additional attenuation provided by the ear plug.

Seamless. Wireless. Intra-Team Communication
ComTac IX NIB headsets offers a hands-free adaptive VOX capability, for noisy and quite environments, allowing face to face communication in full duplex for up to four talkers and up to sixty listeners. 3M™ Natural Interaction Behavior (NIB) is designed to help improve intra-team, proximity communications. When two or more NIB enabled headsets are within the NIB’s operational bubble, which is 5-10 meters, the headsets connect automatically and allow headset-to-headset communications without the need for an externally connected radio.
Radio Audio Management
The user can select one of three preset sound profiles to choose how incoming audio is presented: Mix (Radio communication(s) are heard equally in both left and right ear), Single (Radio communications will be split between the left and right ears) or Surround (The radio communications will be perceived as it is coming from different directions: 10 o’clock or 2 o’clock).
Microphone Sensitivity Adjustments. The microphone sensitivity can be adjusted to accommodate a wide variety of connections: Low (simulate dynamic microphone), Medium ( simulate electret microphone), High (simulate carbon microphone).
Environmental Listening for Auditory Situational Awareness
The environmental listening feature is a means of allowing safe audio sounds to bypass the individual hearing protection electronically while still helping protect against harmful noises. A microphone receives the sounds outside of the headset and transmits them to a speaker inside of the headset. The level-dependent digital audio circuit senses noise levels above the desired threshold and compresses them to a safe decibel level or amplifies weak sounds to an audible level.
Mission Audio Profiles (MAP)
ComTac IX offers a way to adjust the auditory settings of your headset for your mission.
Hearing Protection & Ear Plug Mode
In critical situations, noise levels can be so high that they cause immediate, permanent damage to your hearing if proper protection is not worn. ComTac IX helps provide hearing protection and can also be worn in combination with earplugs, to help provide additional protection if required. In ear plug mode, it is possible to maintain a degree of auditory situational awareness, as the headset volume is boosted to help compensate for the additional attenuation provided by the ear plug
Soundscape
ComTac IX features soundscape to help promote NIB and radio speech intelligibility in noise. Soundscape enables automatic changes to product settings dependent on the user environment
